Liminal (working title)
July 2003 - Ongoing
Over the past seven years I have used my camera to capture the fleeting moments of my life, revealing my most intimate experiences, and allowing my work to revolve around my relationships, surroundings and perceptions. My practice combines landscapes, portraits and the snapshot aesthetic to engage desire and intimacy. By photographing my friends, family, lover - Julian and myself, I want to mirror the experiences of tenderness and love directly. As I investigate and extract moments from my life it is my aim to examine and display my daily rituals with limited mediation.
My process is defined by the pursuit of the meaningful convergence where light, form and memory become a singular entity. In these images I document from one daily routine to the next. My work deals with the seasonal passing of time and aging.
Sometimes playing a role for the camera allows me to feel outside of myself. Other times it forces me to feel my skin tautly strung over my bones. I see myself in my minds eye and feel fragile and human. That vulnerability is as thrilling as it is terrifying. To love is to be vulnerable. A true romantic is not blind to the daily disappointments in life, they realize how rare and special the treat. It is meditating on the lucky moments of fleeting bliss, while others fixate on how seldom they come along.
